Costs & Profit

How Much Does It Cost to Start Book Arbitrage?

There is no universal startup number. A small retail-sourcing test can require little more than inventory and seller fees, while a paid software-and-training system can add four figures upfront.

Inventory

Your first inventory budget should be small enough that slow sales or bad assumptions do not create financial stress. The purpose of a first batch is learning.

Marketplace costs

Amazon currently offers a per-item Individual plan and a monthly Professional plan, plus referral fees and optional fulfillment/service costs.

Software

Scanning, sourcing, listing and repricing tools may carry subscriptions. Add them only when their time savings or decision quality justify the fixed cost.

BookProfits example

BookProfits’ standard public terms list $1,497 upfront plus $197/month outside special offers. That is a materially different commitment from testing a DIY workflow.

Working capital

Remember that cash can be tied up between purchase and sale. Inventory velocity affects how much capital you need even when per-book margins look attractive.
